Listless, 2021

Waxed linen thread and paper cord spun from to-do lists.

I love lists, at home, at work, in my creative practice, I love them. The last time I worked in an office, I had a really good note-taking and task-tracking system in a series of notebooks. If you look closely, you can see my handwriting, in the same line weight as the thread. “Meet with”, “email”, “follow-up on”… 2020 and 2021 were an exercise in un-checked lists, in prioritization, in stopping and starting, in abandoning lists, and certainly in periods of listlessness—nothing to do next, all things equally urgent/not urgent. Lists became titled “on my mind” and “evidence of fall”. Felt right to take my lists from an “acceptably productive” time in my life and turn them into a different kind of production entirely.
